Position Summary
The Senior Director of R&D Product Engineering will provide functional leadership to large and complex teams of product development employees responsible for the successful execution of strategic initiatives as well as new product development projects. The ideal candidate for the Senior Director of R&D Product Engineering can influence global functional strategy while implementing functional objectives supportive of overall R&D goals. This role will be based out of Fridley, MN, while driving execution across a diverse portfolio of projects that may exist across multiple sites and multiple product areas. The Senior Director of R&D Product Engineering must be able to consistently develop people at multiple levels in the organization.
What You’ll Do Every Day:
- Identifies opportunities to enhance global R&D functional strategy to achieve business objectives.
- Enhances team performance by aligning skills and resources across sites, streamlining structures and processes, and strengthening cross-functional collaboration for short- and long-term impact.
- Leads teams responsible for delivering upon product development objectives ranging from early concept and prototyping through transfer to any of the HMC manufacturing sites. Key activities include requirements definition, system and product design, risk management, V&V testing strategy & execution and product and process design alignment.
- Provides technical leadership at the management and individual contributor levels while identifying and supporting the developmental and training needs across the team.
- Provides work direction for best-in-class product design & development skills and tools such as Design of Experiments (DOE), DFM, FMEA, risk management, etc. This knowledge may be leveraged across various technologies as needed.
- Accurately and effectively reports and communicates progress and issues to leadership in order to support project objectives.
- Partners effectively and proactively with other functional leaders and teams including Process Development, Operations, Quality, Commercial, Project Management, Regulatory, Portfolio Management, and others as applicable.
- Supports Project Management in the execution of a project portfolio by understanding and setting priorities, providing technical inputs to project planning activities, managing resources and mitigating risks in order to achieve milestones.
- Oversees the development, implementation, and documentation of technologies to support successful product launches, while identifying new solutions aligned with R&D and customer priorities to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.

What We’re Looking For (Medevio) / Your Profile / What is Required for This Role (Heraeus Group):
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 12 years of related experience including experience in the medical device industry.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience managing and leading teams.
- Demonstrates exceptional leadership, communication and managerial skills.
- Strong understanding of medical device design and development.
- Experience in various medical device areas such as neuromodulation and interventional a plus.
- Communicates effectively across all organizational levels and external stakeholders, with strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
Medevio is committed to providing competitive total compensation and benefits packages. The expected hiring range for this position is between $170,000 and $240,000 based upon a full-time schedule. This is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. Base salaries are determined by taking a variety of factors in account, including, but not limited to, candidate qualifications, geographic locations, market conditions and internal equity. This position is bonus eligible, with a target of 20%. Our total compensation package includes eligibility for comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan with company match, education reimbursement, paid parental leave and paid time off.
