The primary responsibility of this position is: develop & implement programs that comply with federal, state and local safety & environmental regulations. Investigate all safety & occupational health related injuries/accidents. Implement all corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence of injuries & incidents.  Maintain a current working knowledge of EHS regulations & understand how they impact business. Interact with agency contacts & lead on-site visit or inspections from EHS regulatory personnel.

Your Role and Responsibilities:

    • Monitor employee exposure to physical and chemical hazards

    • Understand and implement machine guarding where needed

    • Develop recommendations for remedial actions when safety policies are not met by employees

    • Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations

    • Complete and maintain documented safety observations from regular hazard identification audits

    • Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine root causes, corrective actions and preventive measures

    • Develop, implement and maintain safety contingency plans (fires, spills, etc.)

    • Perform environmental compliance and due diligence audits to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies

    • Maintain recordkeeping and compliance requirements established for permitted sources defined by the local AQMD

    • Responsible for hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, including DOT 

    • Maintain compliance 

    • Experience with emergency management practices

    • Experience in the implementation of programs for EHS federal and California regulatory compliance

    • Experience in the development of EHS policies, standards and procedures

    • Experience in hazard and risk identification and analysis

    • Work with production to be proactive with any design/process changes that will have an environmental or employee health impact

    • Process New hire physicals and Annual physicals 

    • Must possess good interpersonal, analytical, verbal and written communication skills

    • Good mathematical skills, good computer skills: Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook (email)

    • Other responsibilities include improving EHS key performance indicators, enhancing regulatory compliance, and decreasing costs

    • Adherence to Code of Conduct as applicable to job function:  CoC Guideline No. 1:  Guideline for the Procurement of Products and Services, No. 2:  Guideline for the Prevention of Bribery in Commercial Transactions, No. 3:  Guideline for the Acceptance of Precious Metals and No. 4:  Guideline for the Prevention of Money Laundering and Participation in Criminal Acts.

    • Responsibility to ensure that direct reports and overall employee population are also aware and adhere to Code of Conduct Guidelines.

What is required for this role:

  • Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering

  •  5-10 Years of EH&S in a Chemical Manufacturing Environment (preferred)

  • Must possess advanced Microsoft Excel skills
